Spirit week, held the week of Yujo, gave the student body an opportunity to express excitement and support for everything that comes with Yujo. Each day, students dressed up in a fun category and showed off their Mustang pride!
We kicked off Monday with pajama day! Fittingly, it was one of our chilliest mornings of the year. Students came dressed in their comfiest attire: sweaters, slippers, and flannel. Some even represented ASIJ in the pajama pants sold at the Mustang Market. It was a cozy, festive start to spirit week.
Tuesday was Preppy vs Western. Preppies dressed like jolly Americans watching polo; they wore cardigans, collared shirts, and khakis. Westerners were just as fun: cowboy boots, flared jeans, flannel shirts, and denim jackets. Walking through the halls of ASIJ felt like walking through a town where cowboys and golfers were learning the same subjects.
On Wednesday, our school became quite illuminated. In other words, it was Neon Day! This was a simple one where students paired black clothing with any sort of bright clothing or accessory. However, some students took it to the next level with reflective hi-vis vests and glow sticks.
In Mean Girls, they wear pink on Wednesdays, but at ASIJ, Yujo Pink started on Thursday. To support our volleyball teams, the student body covered ourselves in the best color (pink) and took every chance to watch the games held in the HS gym. Yujo day one was especially exciting, as it was the first day with other schools. The sea of pink students in the gym looked like a flock of pink flamingos at the lake.
Friday was the day before Spirit Day! It was definitely the most intense of the weekdays. The theme was black and gold—our school colors—and Mustangs definitely rose to the challenge. Students not only wore the colors, but also flaunted their favorite school merch and shiny golden accessories. Seeing the student body unified through school colors and school spirit was so inspiring!
Our high school had fun being creative with the Spirit Week themes and cheering for our fellow Mustangs. Here’s to a successful Yujo, and here’s to more activities throughout the school year!
