Once a shy first grader who wasn’t sure how to fit in, Junu Min became a confident and passionate leader ready to take on the responsibility of representing the student body—his story is one that a lot of students can relate to. 

“I joined ASIJ after moving from Seoul,” Junu says. “Back then, I looked Japanese but couldn’t speak Japanese, my English wasn’t great either, and I definitely wasn’t American. I was terrified.” 

ASIJ, though, became more than just a school—it became home.

“This place shaped who I am,” he reflects, “I’ve grown up in these hallways, made lifelong friends, and learned what it means to feel supported. Now, I want to give back.” 

Junu’s campaign focuses on connection, belonging, and real change. 

He’d like to expand on how the student body defines student leadership, from more than planning fun events to being “listeners, advocates, and problem solvers.”  

His goals primarily include student-led initiatives: dedicating spaces around campus that support different kinds of learning and a new student-council website with an open forum to promote transparent communication. 

As he’s looking to push for change, he’s also committed to preserving what makes ASIJ special.  This means keeping the “collaborative spirit alive” and valuing the shared moments together. In his words, “fun isn’t just fun—it’s how we connect.” 

When it comes to leadership, Junu defines himself in three ways. His slogan (Junu 4 U: He’ll be there for you) reflects him being an empathetic listener. He’s also an action taker, taking his projects beyond the ideating stage to fruition. And lastly, he’s a dedicated doer because when he cares, he gives it his all. 

When asked what he wants students to know most about his vision, Junu keeps it simple: belonging, well-being, and transparency. 

“I want everyone to feel seen, supported, and in the loop. That’s the kind of school we deserve—and the one I’ll work hard to build.”
