The ASIJ Softball Team is and has always been a vital part of the Mustang Athletics Program. This year’s team is especially recognized for its positive energy and strong team culture, led by captains Kaho A. ‘26 and Koko W. ‘26.
A key strength of the team is its supportive dynamic. When asked about the team’s environment this season, Kaho emphasized how everyone encourages one another in all pursuits, creating a healthy environment both on and off the field. With uplifting chants and a shared sense of excitement, the team has built a culture where athletes feel included and motivated to contribute.
Furthermore, over the past three years, the ASIJ softball team has benefited from experienced coaches, including two NCAA Division-III-level coaches who have helped elevate the team’s strategies and understanding of the game. The coaches’ influence has been crucial in building rhythm, pushing the team to a more competitive level, and strengthening fundamentals.
This season, ASIJ has played six games and earned three wins. Most recently, during the team’s senior night, the team secured a dominant 20–8 victory over Yokota High School, demonstrating how far it has come offensively.
In the high-energy matchup against Yokota, the Mustangs battled through a difficult contest that at one point saw the score tied 8–8. But after a powerful home run from Miyuki (12), the Mustangs took control of the game, gaining on Yokota inning by inning.
After the game, emotions ran high as the seniors gathered with their coaches, fully taking in their final moments in the Mustang Valley. Through tears, Kaho ’26 reflected, “I had the best three years playing softball at ASIJ… We have the best coaches at ASIJ, and I really appreciate all the support.”
Although the focus against Yokota was senior night, underclassmen players have also shaped the team’s journey. Ellie Yan (10) and Chaness Kim (10) have had a significant impact on the team’s growth and success thanks to their talent and deep softball knowledge. Their presence provides confidence for the program’s future, leaving current captains assured that they are leaving the team in good hands.
Ultimately, the ASIJ softball team’s season has been about more than wins and losses. Through its togetherness and tireless energy, the team has shown what makes Mustang athletics special and left a strong foundation for the seasons ahead.
