A new school year means new classes, new rules, and a new bus lineup. As students settle into the 2026–27 school year, here are some of the biggest changes around ASIJ.
A Fresh Look at the Entrance
A bright yellow ASIJ sign (see above) now stands at the front of campus by the bus roundabout. It’s bold and spirited, making the entrance feel a lot more iconic. It’s the new hot spot for advisory photos on campus.
New Bus Areas

If your bus seems a little different this year, you’re not imagining it. The parking placement and order of the buses around campus have been changed, so make sure you double-check your bus before heading home. You definitely don’t want to end up on the wrong one!
A New TV Screen

If you’ve walked through the main hallway in the morning, you’ve probably noticed the new TV screen playing an ASIJ promotional video. The screen features footage of ASIJ students and highlights different parts of school life, giving students and visitors a quick look into what the school has to offer.
Finally, Air Conditioning in the HS Gym
After what feels like an eternity of waiting, the High School gym finally has new air conditioning! With practices, games, PE classes, and events taking place throughout the year, the upgrade is definitely a welcome one.
More Classes to Choose From
ASIJ is expanding its high school course offerings for the 2026-27 school year, with 10 new or newly offered courses across several departments. From AP Macroeconomics and Public Health and Public Policy to Technology & Society, Data Science, and Cybersecurity, along with new English topics like Mythology of Monsters and From Page to Screen, there’s plenty to choose from. With new choices across so many different subjects, there’s plenty of room to try something new.
The Phone Rule
Perhaps the most noticeable change for students is the new High School phone policy. Phones are now off-limits throughout the HS, including during lunch and Community Time, with the Book Locker Room (BLR) the only exception.
The rule has received mixed reactions from students, but for now, we’ll have to wait and see how it affects daily life at ASIJ.
With new courses, a campus sign, bus changes, a gym upgrade, a giant new TV, and a very noticeable phone policy, ASIJ is starting the 2026–27 school year with quite a few changes.
